VAULT CRAFT

ADAPTIVE REUSE/PRESERVATION

SPRING 2022 - COMMERCIAL PROJECT

Vault Craft is an adaptive-reuse of a historically significant midcentury modern bank by North Carolina architect F. Carter Williams. Unfortunately, the building had fallen into disrepair over the years, and the owner bought the property with the goals of updating the program from banking to bottle shop, preserving key building elements, and updating exterior spaces to allow for community gathering. Given the small footprint, the original plan layout was mostly preserved, opting to switch out teller stations for a bar and keep utilitarian spaces in the rear. A new thin exterior canopy to the west echoes the original entryway covering.
