STATE OF BEER

The State that Beer Built

DECEMBER 2014 — BOTTLE SHOP / BAR

State of Beer transformed a compact, narrow, and deep space within a convoluted multi-use building in downtown Raleigh into a destination bar and bottle shop for beer enthusiasts. As a "left over" space, the project contended with odd overlapping tenants and fire separations including an adjacent middle school located both above and below. With limited space, the design solution focused on celebrating the necessities. Ordered systems, contextual furnishings, and repetitive custom fixtures accommodate compact conditions, define scale, and establish a distinctive identity. The warm glow of custom cast bronze panels anchors these components and highlight the centrally located fountainhead.

Maurer Architecture served as Architect of Record for this project, in collaboration with Raleigh Architecture and Construction Company.
